Astoria - An easy 90 minute drive from Portland will put you where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean. The pier now has added restaurants and the Cannery Pier Hotel, which is built 600 feet over the river and offers views from every room. This region was once noted for being the fish-cannery capital of the world. You will be traveling along part of Lewis and Clarks River route when they explored the area over 200 years ago. Life at sea is illustrated by a visit to the Columbia River Maritime Museum.

  • Flavel House is a grand Victorian home built in 1885 and is open to the public for tours.
  • The Purple Cow is a shop that features old-fashioned toys.
  • Several restaurants in town offer visitors the chance to try fresh seafood; Colombian Café, Fulio’s Pastaria and the Silver Salmon Grille.
  • The newly completed 6.5mile Fort to Sea Trail gives hikers the opportunity to follow the footsteps of the Lewis and Clark Expedition leading to the Astoria Column.
  • Climb the column’s 164 stairs for a spectacular view of the Lower Columbia Region.
  • Fishing Charters in the Astoria and Warrenton area are some of the best you will find anywhere.
  • The Astoria Trolly is an exciting and fun filled trip for the whole family. A great way to experience the town and relax at the same time.

Astoria Oregon - population around 10,000 is located on the Columbia River, just a few miles east of the Pacific Ocean. The town of Astoria is noted as the oldest American settlement west of the Rockies and has been seen in many movies over the years. Some of these movies include Kindergarten Cop, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, Short Circuit, and both Free Willy I and II. We feel that Hollywood choose Astoria for the setting of these movies due in large to the natural beauty and old historic charm of the area.
